A growing paradox is taking shape in Azerbaijan’s auto market: in many cases, used car parts now cost more than brand-new ones.
Sellers and auto mechanics confirm the trend, pointing to one main factor – quality.
According to mechanics, many new spare parts entering the market today are aftermarket imports that often fail to perform reliably once installed. In contrast, used parts – especially original components removed from vehicles – tend to be more durable and compatible.
“New parts often don’t ‘settle’ properly on the car,” mechanics say. “They may start causing issues shortly after installation, which pushes drivers back to used components that have already proven themselves.”
The price gap is striking.
Engines that previously sold for 1,100–1,300 manats are now offered for 1,500-1,600 manats on the used-parts market. A new front headlight may cost 300–400 manats, while a used original version can reach 1,300-1,400 manats.
Similar patterns are seen across other components.
Suspension parts, brake calipers, steering elements and cooling system components are often cheaper when new – but significantly more expensive when sold second-hand as original parts.
Market participants estimate that around 70–80% of spare parts remain relatively price-stable. Sharp increases are concentrated in components that mechanics consider reliable and in high demand.
Despite the higher prices, demand for used auto parts continues to grow. For many car owners, reliability has become more important than novelty – even if it comes at a premium.
