Turkey Pushes Palestine, Syria Issues in U.S. Meeting

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed possible joint steps to help end the war between Russia and Ukraine during their September 25 meeting in Washington, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told reporters.

According to Fidan, the two leaders also reviewed cooperation within NATO. Erdoğan raised concerns about the situation in the Middle East, emphasizing the urgency of a ceasefire in Gaza and warning of risks posed by Israel’s expansionist policies.

Talks also touched on Syria. “All countries agree that Syria must preserve its territorial integrity and political unity,” the Turkish foreign minister said.

Fidan stressed that Turkey and the United States are determined to resolve bilateral issues directly, citing mutual will on questions ranging from energy to sanctions and regional disputes. He added that Erdoğan formally invited Trump to pay an official visit to Ankara.
