REAL party chairman Natig Jafarli has commented on the regional agenda, stating that a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia could potentially be signed ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled in Armenia.

According to Jafarli, the recent diplomatic dynamics in the South Caucasus indicate a gradual improvement in relations between Baku and Yerevan. He noted that increased international engagement, particularly from the United States, is contributing to a faster normalization process in the region.

The politician emphasized that although the peace agreement has already been initialed, key steps – including formal signing and parliamentary ratification – remain unresolved. One of Azerbaijan’s central expectations, he said, is the removal of provisions from the preamble of Armenia’s Constitution that are perceived in Baku as territorial claims.

Jafarli suggested that if Armenia publishes a new constitutional draft addressing these concerns before the elections, the agreement could be signed in advance, while ratification might take place after the vote and a possible referendum.

He added that such a scenario would help preserve positive momentum in the peace process and support regional stability during a politically sensitive period.

Jafarli also linked broader geopolitical engagement in the region to long-term economic opportunities, including the potential development of regional data centers supported by growing energy capacity in Azerbaijan.

The coming months, he concluded, will be decisive for both the peace track and the broader strategic landscape of the South Caucasus.
