The rulings were delivered as part of ongoing legal proceedings involving Armenian nationals accused of crimes connected to the Karabakh conflict.
A military court in Baku has announced prison sentences for several Armenian nationals tried in connection with events related to the Karabakh conflict.
According to the court’s decision, Melikset Pashayan was sentenced to 19 years in prison, Garik Martirosyan to 18 years, Davit Allahverdyan and Levon Balayan to 16 years, while Vasili Beglaryan, Gurgen Stepanyan, and Erik Ghazaryan each received 15-year prison terms.
The defendants were found guilty on multiple charges, including crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism-related offenses, and attempts to seize or retain power by force, based on the prosecution’s case presented during the trial.
The rulings form part of a broader judicial process that has also resulted in life sentences and long-term imprisonment for other former officials and military figures associated with the former separatist administration in Karabakh, including Arayik Harutyunyan, Levon Mnatsakanyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, David Babayan, and David Manukyan.
In several instances, life imprisonment could not be applied because the defendants were over the age of 65, in accordance with Azerbaijani criminal law, although the court stated that the underlying charges carried provisions allowing for such punishment.
The trials related to the Karabakh conflict continue to draw domestic and international attention, reflecting the legal aftermath of decades-long hostilities in the region.
