The National Hydrometeorology Service has issued a weather alert, forecasting strong winds across several regions of Azerbaijan in the coming days. Rainfall is expected in some areas, with heavy downpours in certain locations. Flash floods and mudflows may occur in mountainous river zones, and thunderstorms are also likely.
In light of the forecast, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) has called on the public to strictly observe safety precautions.
During strong winds, residents are advised to:
Stay away from lightweight structures, temporary buildings, and billboards
Avoid standing under power lines, wires, or tall trees
Exercise heightened caution, as strong winds complicate firefighting efforts — fire safety rules must be strictly followed in windy conditions
Beachgoers are reminded that swimming in the sea during high winds is dangerous, and are urged to fully comply with safety guidelines.
To reduce the risk from mudflows and floods triggered by torrential rain, the MES advises avoiding flood-prone areas and moving to higher ground immediately if such a threat arises.
During thunderstorms, the ministry recommends:
Unplugging electrical appliances
Avoiding use of phones (landline, mobile, payphones) outdoors
Staying away from power lines, lightning rods, drainage pipes, and antennas
Not taking shelter under tall trees — instead, seek lower, safer areas
If in a car, stop safely, roll up the windows, and wait for the storm to pass
“Remember: ignoring safety rules puts lives at risk. In case of emergency, call 112,” the Ministry emphasized.
