Azerbaijani MP: Russian Media Used for Provocations, Baku Responding Accordingly

In a sharp critique of Moscow’s information tactics, Azerbaijani Member of Parliament and political analyst Rasim Musabekov has accused the Russian government of consistently using media and digital platforms to orchestrate provocations abroad — including in Azerbaijan.

“This is nothing new,” Musabekov told Report. “Russian intelligence services have long considered such operations part of their active measures. And they continue to pursue this line of activity today.”

The MP defended Baku’s decision to shut down nearly all Russian television channels in Azerbaijan, followed more recently by the closure of Sputnik Azerbaijan — the local branch of the Russian state-controlled media outlet. “What business do they even have operating on our territory?” he asked.

Musabekov emphasized that Azerbaijan is not standing idly by: “Whenever something is used against the interests of our country, we respond. One thing is clear — we are not helpless in the face of these activities. We are taking the necessary steps.”
