Legislative changes in Azerbaijan could lead to regular increases in the minimum wage, potentially affecting more than 700,000 citizens, lawmakers say.

Member of parliament Vugar Bayramov stated that introducing an annual review of the minimum wage is important to ensure consistent income growth for low-paid workers and to strengthen social protection mechanisms.

According to the proposal, raising the minimum wage would influence not only employees who receive it directly but also workers whose salaries are calculated under the unified tariff scale. The measure is also expected to narrow the gap between minimum and average wages.

The amendments предусматривают пересмотр размера минимальной заработной платы не реже одного раза в год. The draft legislation has already been approved by parliament in its first reading.

If fully adopted and implemented through subsequent government decisions, the policy could provide more predictable income growth for lower-income groups and reinforce social support across the labor market.
