Yerevan Welcomes Turkish Investors as Normalization Prospects Rise

Must read

Armenia would welcome Turkish investment if relations between the two countries are normalized and their shared border reopens, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said during a briefing in parliament, according to Armenian media cited by Report.

Papoyan noted that several Turkish companies, including clothing brands, have been operating in Armenia since 2012.

“I welcome these investments. A lasting peace between neighboring countries is impossible without financial cooperation. If we truly want stability in the region, it must be supported by economic development,” he said.

The minister emphasized that peace without economic links is only a temporary pause. He said that once peace is achieved and the border opens, Armenia could attract foreign capital, including from Turkey. In turn, Armenian entrepreneurs would also be able to invest in neighboring countries.

“Anyone who believes a viable state can exist without economic interaction is deeply mistaken,” Papoyan said.

He also denied rumors that the so-called “Trump Route” through Armenia’s Syunik province would be financed by Turkish money, stressing that the project involves full cooperation with the United States.
