Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has expressed hope that the process of border delimitation with Azerbaijan will allow Armenia to regain control over several territories, including Artsvashen, which currently remain under Baku’s jurisdiction.
“As a result of delimitation, we must regain Artsvashen and other occupied sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia,” Pashinyan wrote on his Telegram channel.
The statement marks one of the few public remarks by the Armenian leader explicitly referring to Artsvashen – an Armenian enclave located within Azerbaijan’s borders and under Azerbaijani control since the early 1990s.
Pashinyan’s comment comes amid renewed talks between Baku and Yerevan on border demarcation, as both sides continue negotiations on a final peace treaty following the 2020 and 2023 conflicts.
Analysts note that Pashinyan’s reference to “returning occupied territories” may be aimed at domestic audiences, seeking to reassure critics who accuse his government of concessions to Azerbaijan during the ongoing normalization process.
