Azerbaijan has launched work on developing a national supercomputer infrastructure as part of its broader artificial intelligence strategy, the Ministry of Economy announced at the II Caspian International Innovation Forum 2025.
According to Report, Rauf Najafli, advisor to the Minister of Economy, said artificial intelligence is expected to add an estimated $20 trillion to the global economy by 2040 — a trend Azerbaijan aims to capitalize on.
AI Strategy as a Pillar of Digital Transformation
Najafli emphasized that Azerbaijan’s national AI strategy plays a central role in shaping the country’s digital future, promoting innovation, and boosting economic competitiveness.
“The main priorities of the strategy include strengthening information infrastructure, training highly qualified specialists, and creating a favorable business environment. Concrete steps have already been taken in these areas, including the launch of supercomputer infrastructure,” he said.
Supercomputer to Serve Government and Private Sector
The Ministry of Economy has already begun building the supercomputing system, which will support data-driven solutions across public and private institutions.
Najafli noted that the new system will enable:
optimization of industrial processes,
improved energy efficiency,
predictive analytics,
and AI-driven production management.
Accelerating Transition to Next-Generation Industry
As global competitiveness increasingly depends on high-volume data processing and advanced analytics, Najafli said the supercomputer initiative will help accelerate Azerbaijan’s transition to next-generation industrial technologies.
“This infrastructure will significantly contribute to the creation of an innovation-oriented economy,” he added.
