Car prices in Azerbaijan may rise in January as the market struggles with months of stagnation, according to the country’s Automobile Dealers Association.
Speaking to Metbuat.az, the association’s executive director, Eyub Aliyev, said the slowdown is most evident in the segment of used cars and new vehicles sold by official dealerships. At the same time, sales of cars imported by private individuals remain high.
Aliyev noted that most of these privately imported cars come from China and are originally intended for the Chinese domestic market. “Versions of the same models differ between Europe and China. Despite their lower cost, these cars are sold mainly thanks to Chinese subsidies and other factors,” he explained. In contrast, official dealers in Azerbaijan primarily offer European-market vehicles, where prices have remained stagnant.
The expert expects sales of new cars to rise by the end of the year, with a sharper increase in January 2026, when tax benefits for environmentally friendly vehicles are due to expire.
“As for used cars, the picture is already clear: today it is more advantageous to buy a new car than a 10–15-year-old used one. People are opting for new Chinese cars, but that is not always the right choice. I always advise buying cars with a warranty to avoid future problems on the road,” Aliyev said.
