Will Azerbaijan Ban Electric Scooters? Experts Say No

Several European countries – including France (Paris), Spain (Madrid), and most recently the Czech Republic – have moved to restrict or ban electric scooters, citing public safety concerns and infrastructure limitations. But will Azerbaijan follow their lead?

According to transport expert Aslan Asadov, a similar ban is not expected in Azerbaijan.

“The bans in some European countries are largely related to climate and infrastructure,” Asadov explained.

“In countries with colder climates, scooters are used for only a short period of the year. Because of the weather and urban layout, demand for them is limited. In Azerbaijan, the situation is quite different.”

He noted that electric scooters have become increasingly popular among young people, particularly for leisure rides and short commutes along Baku’s seaside boulevard.

“These vehicles are still relatively new in our country and, in many cases, are seen as a useful form of transport,” he added.

“Especially in areas of the capital with frequent traffic jams, scooters offer convenient and agile mobility. Therefore, there are no discussions or plans to ban them in Azerbaijan anytime soon.”
