A renewed surge in demand has pushed used car prices in Azerbaijan higher, with some models rising by 1,500 to 3,000 manats, according to observations from Baku’s automobile markets.
Sellers say the increase is most noticeable in vehicles priced below 30,000 manats, where buyer activity has remained strong despite broader concerns about affordability. Market participants link the price growth primarily to higher customs duties, which have affected both new and imported vehicles.
Popular brands currently in demand include Hyundai, Kia, Chevrolet, and Ford, which are seen by buyers as more reliable and easier to maintain compared to newer market entrants. Dealers report that these models are selling faster than others, especially in the compact and mid-range segments.
Another factor reshaping the market is the expiration of state incentives for electric and hybrid vehicles. With preferential conditions now phased out, prices for these vehicles have increased sharply, pushing many consumers back toward the used car segment.
At the same time, interest in Chinese-made vehicles appears to be cooling. After a wave of purchases last year, some owners have begun reporting technical and maintenance issues, prompting potential buyers to reconsider. As a result, demand has shifted toward established brands with readily available spare parts and service networks.
Automotive specialists advise buyers to pay close attention to a vehicle’s engine condition, transmission, electronics, and bodywork when purchasing on the secondary market, noting that price growth has also attracted lower-quality listings.
Market participants warn that further price increases cannot be ruled out in the coming weeks, particularly if import costs remain elevated and supply fails to keep pace with demand.
For now, Azerbaijan’s used car market remains active, with buyers increasingly prioritizing practicality and long-term maintenance over newer but less familiar alternatives.
