“We Both Benefit”: Mirzoyan Defends Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Framework

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that all agreements reached with Azerbaijan are mutually advantageous, emphasizing that both sides have a vested interest in maintaining them. Mirzoyan made the remarks in response to a question about guarantees for the implementation of peace and transport communication agreements between the two countries.

“Such guarantees do not really work – we’ve learned that from our own experience,” Mirzoyan said, calling the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan “a turning point.”

The minister rejected the notion that the participation of a third party – particularly a global power – could serve as a stronger guarantee of compliance.

He also dismissed claims that a peace treaty would favor Azerbaijan while leaving Armenia empty-handed:

“What we have gained is beneficial to us. What Azerbaijan has gained is important for them. In that sense, both sides are interested in respecting the agreements. The participation of U.S. President Donald Trump can also be seen as an additional positive factor,” Mirzoyan noted.
