Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has pardoned 615 people ahead of the country’s Constitution Day, marked on December 8.
According to the decree published on the president’s official website, those released include individuals who, in the government’s assessment, “sincerely repented for their actions and firmly chose the path of rehabilitation.”
Of the 615 pardoned:
220 received full release,
123 were freed from serving their probation terms,
97 had their restrictions reduced,
175 saw their prison sentences shortened.
The group includes 9 foreign nationals, 29 women, 23 men, 264 individuals under the age of 30, and **9 people previously convicted as members of banned organizations.
The decree instructs ministries and agencies to support the reintegration of those released — including helping them return to their families, adapt socially, find employment, and maintain a stable lifestyle.
