The closing and awards ceremony of the Amputee Football Nations League Group C took place at Bayil Arena in Baku following the tournament’s final match.
According to Report, the event was attended by Mateusz Widłak, President of the European Amputee Football Federation, Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), Sarhan Hajiyev, Executive Vice President of the Azerbaijan Football Federations Association (AFFA), as well as representatives from the participating countries and other officials.
The Ukrainian national team claimed first place in Group C with nine points, receiving the championship trophy and gold medals. Israel, finishing with eight points, won silver, while Azerbaijan, with seven points, earned bronze.
Individual awards went to Eddy Negers (Netherlands) as Best Goalkeeper, Sanan Hajiyev (Azerbaijan) as Best Player, Dmytro Sheheleskyi (Ukraine) as Best Young Player, and Ben Maman (Israel) as Top Scorer.
“Our Team Fought Until the End”
Commenting after the match, AFFA Executive Vice President Sarhan Hajiyev highlighted that the tournament marked a major milestone in Azerbaijan’s efforts to develop amputee football.
“In 2023, AFFA signed a cooperation agreement with ANAMA covering several areas, including the development of amputee football. This sport is taking its first steps in Azerbaijan, and now our team is gaining international recognition,” Hajiyev said.
“We may have expected more, but our players fought until the end.”
This year’s Nations League marked the first time Azerbaijan hosted the competition, underscoring the country’s growing role in promoting inclusive and adaptive sports.
