ANKARA, August 1, 2025 — U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Special Representative for Syria Thomas Barak has expressed gratitude to Qatar for financing the delivery of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria via Turkey.
In a post on social media platform X, Barak highlighted the impact of the initiative, writing:
“Starting August 2, Azerbaijani natural gas delivered through Turkey will power 800 megawatts of electricity — lighting up 5 million homes. This is a vital step toward alleviating the crisis and promoting stability at a critical moment.”
The statement underscores Washington’s support for regional cooperation aimed at easing Syria’s energy shortages, with Qatar playing a key financial role and Azerbaijan acting as a crucial energy supplier. The arrangement is seen as a rare example of multilateral coordination in the war-torn country’s reconstruction efforts.
