WASHINGTON, July 17 — The U.S. Senate has passed a bill eliminating nearly $9 billion in federal spending, including funds allocated to foreign aid and public broadcasting services such as NPR and PBS.
According to TASS, the legislation targets key budget lines, notably rescinding $7.9 billion originally designated through the State Department for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). An additional $1.1 billion in funding previously set aside for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting will also be withdrawn.
The decision marks a significant shift in U.S. spending priorities, with lawmakers citing the need for tighter fiscal discipline amid ongoing domestic economic concerns. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.
