WASHINGTON, July 15 — The United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have reportedly agreed to set the end of August as the final deadline to reach a new nuclear agreement with Iran, according to sources cited by Axios.
The report says that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a joint phone call on Monday with the foreign ministers of France, Germany, and the UK, during which the parties agreed on the timeline.
If a new agreement is not reached by then, the three European countries are prepared to trigger the automatic reimposition of all United Nations sanctions on Tehran — a mechanism originally built into the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
The move marks growing frustration among Western powers over stalled negotiations and what they view as Iran’s continued nuclear escalation.
