The peace declaration signed at the White House on August 8 represents the beginning of “a bold new chapter” in the history of the South Caucasus, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Azerbaijan Amy Carlon said at the annual gala of Azerbaijani alumni of American universities.
Carlon underlined that Washington remains committed to supporting both Azerbaijan and Armenia in building a lasting peace. “Ultimately, peace and the future development of the region depend not only on cooperation between our governments,” she said.
“Equally important is strengthening people-to-people ties between Americans and Azerbaijanis. We count on you to help make this possible and to unlock the South Caucasus’ tremendous potential in trade, transit, and energy.”
The U.S. diplomat also spoke of her eagerness to learn more about Azerbaijan’s history and culture.
“I am new to Azerbaijan, but I already feel at home here. The warmth and hospitality of the Azerbaijani people are truly invaluable. I look forward to getting to know this beautiful country, its regions, history, and traditions,” Carlon told the gathering.
She praised Azerbaijani graduates of U.S. universities for serving as bridges between the two nations. “You help strengthen cooperation between Baku and Washington. I am sure that during your studies in the United States, you shared the rich culture of your country,” Carlon added.
