Two Azerbaijanis Convicted in Russia for Brutal 2014 Hospital Murder

TYUMEN, Russia — July 18, 2025 — The Tyumen Regional Court has issued a guilty verdict in absentia for two Azerbaijani nationals accused of committing a violent murder at a local hospital more than a decade ago.

According to the regional judiciary’s press service, Nasimi Pasha oglu Amiraslanov was sentenced to 15 years in a high-security penal colony, while Bahruz Ragim oglu Nabiyev received 16 years. Their sentences will begin once they are apprehended and transferred to Russian authorities. Both men have been placed on the federal wanted list.

The crime dates back to May 29, 2014, when a fatal altercation erupted at the “Baku” café in Tyumen. During the dispute, one man was stabbed and rushed to Regional Clinical Hospital No. 2, where he later died. The second participant in the fight—reportedly the opposing party—was brought to the same hospital shortly after.

According to the court, Amiraslanov and Nabiyev, believing the second man responsible for their friend’s death, stormed into the hospital, dragged the patient off a stretcher, kicked him, and struck him with a bench. They then dragged him outside and stabbed him multiple times in the neck and chest. Despite being at a medical facility, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The shocking case drew widespread condemnation at the time, both for the extreme violence and the brazen nature of the attack inside a healthcare facility. Authorities say they are continuing efforts to locate and detain the convicted men.
