ROME, September 12
Turkey will move to normalize relations with Armenia as soon as Yerevan and Baku finalize a peace agreement, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said at a conference at Italy’s Institute of International Relations in Rome.
Fidan praised Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for taking a “historic risk” for peace and thanked Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and his Azerbaijani counterparts for their role in the process. He also noted that U.S. President Donald Trump helped cement the Washington understandings.
Turkey expects the Armenia–Azerbaijan treaty to be signed in the first half of next year, Fidan added.
