Turkey is closely monitoring the recent tensions between Azerbaijan and Russia, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in remarks to journalists following his visit to Azerbaijan.
Erdoğan emphasized Turkey’s unique position, maintaining deep diplomatic and strategic ties with both Baku and Moscow, and urged both sides to show restraint.
“We are carefully following the situation and call on both countries to act with calm and prudence,” Erdoğan stated.

He expressed confidence that diplomatic tensions could be resolved through constructive and balanced dialogue, noting:
“I believe the issue can be resolved more easily and soundly through statements that help de-escalate the situation. I sincerely hope the recent negative developments will be resolved swiftly and won’t cause lasting damage to the relationship between Russia and Azerbaijan.”
Erdoğan also confirmed that he discussed the matter directly with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his visit:
“President Ilham Aliyev is handling the situation with great caution and care. He is clearly not in favor of further escalating tensions,” Erdoğan said.
