Azerbaijan and Turkey plan to increase daily deliveries of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria from 3.4 million cubic meters to 6 million cubic meters under the second phase of a joint energy project, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced on A Haber TV.
Bayraktar noted that the pipeline currently used for the exports is designed to handle the higher volume. “These supplies are not grant-based, but commercial. Azerbaijan sells the gas to Damascus, while Turkey manages delivery and logistics. The Qatar Development Fund is financing the project,” he said.
Gas from Azerbaijan enters Turkey’s BOTAŞ system and is transferred at the Yavuzlu border crossing to Syria.
Deliveries via the Kilis–Aleppo pipeline began on August 2, 2025. The fuel is sent to power plants in Aleppo and Homs, where it is expected to generate 1,200–1,300 megawatts of electricity for Syria’s grid.
