Washington, August 6 — U.S. President Donald Trump signaled today that a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin could take place “soon”, following what he described as “productive” talks between his special envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin in Moscow.

“There’s a good chance that a meeting will happen soon,” Trump told reporters, referencing reports in U.S. and international media after the Moscow talks.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed a cautious tone, saying that while the initial discussions were encouraging, “many obstacles” remain. “It was a good day,” Rubio told Fox Business, “but we still have a long way to go — days, hours, or perhaps weeks.”

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed ongoing preparations for a potential summit, telling CNN that President Trump is open to bilateral talks with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. A potential three-way meeting is also reportedly on the table.

“President Trump wants this brutal war to end,” Leavitt said.

CNN and Fox News previously reported that during Wednesday’s meeting in the Kremlin, Putin expressed willingness to meet with Trump directly.
