Azerbaijani wrestlers have achieved a historic milestone at the U23 World Wrestling Championships held in Serbia, securing their best-ever result since the tournament’s inception in 2017.
Team Azerbaijan captured three gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, marking the country’s strongest overall performance based on medal quality.
In the team standings, Azerbaijan ranked fourth, following Japan (6 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze), Iran (5-2-5), and the United States (5-2-4).
The new world champions include Elmir Aliyev (55 kg), Ziya Babashov (63 kg), and Kanan Heybatov (70 kg), who all claimed gold in their respective weight classes. Khetag Karsanov (125 kg) earned silver, while Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg), Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg), and Ali Tsokayev (86 kg) took bronze.
The performance solidifies Azerbaijan’s growing reputation in international wrestling and highlights the country’s new generation of champions.
