Three Armenian Schools Begin Teaching Azerbaijani

Must read

The Azerbaijani language is currently being taught in three schools across Armenia, according to Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.

As reported by Sputnik Armenia, Andreasyan said the initiative is part of the Armenian government’s program aimed at promoting knowledge of regional languages.

“About 400 schools across the country have expressed interest in introducing the study of a regional language,” the minister noted. “Most of them opted for Turkish, but the ministry has faced a serious shortage of qualified teachers in that field.”

While the number of schools offering Azerbaijani remains small, the inclusion of the language marks a notable step amid ongoing efforts to normalize understanding between neighboring societies following years of political tension.

Observers see the move as part of a cautious shift toward linguistic openness and regional awareness – a rare development in the context of Armenia’s historically limited engagement with Turkic languages.
