“The Scriptwriter and Conductor of Russia-Azerbaijan Tensions Operate Outside the Post-Soviet Space” – Russian Senator

The key figures fueling tensions between Russia and Azerbaijan are not within the post-Soviet space, said Grigory Karasin, Chair of the Russian Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee, during a broadcast on Russia-24.

“None of the countries currently involved in conflicts, disputes, or calls for escalation are going to benefit,” Karasin stated. “The real winners are the scriptwriters and conductors—those orchestrating this turmoil—and I assure you, they are not in the post-Soviet space.”

He suggested that the timing of the tensions is no coincidence, coming at a moment when the war in Ukraine is “losing momentum” and new diplomatic contacts are emerging. According to Karasin, this broader backdrop is being manipulated to blend multiple crises into what he called a “senseless geopolitical adventure.”

Despite current strains, Karasin expressed optimism that the long-standing traditions of coexistence and mutual understanding between Russia and Azerbaijan would prevail.

“We need to quickly move past this emotionally charged phase,” he said. “What’s crucial now is to provide the public with clear facts and evidence about who is at fault, why certain individuals have been punished or arrested, and to exchange views calmly.”

He emphasized the importance of removing media-fueled hysteria and inflammatory rhetoric in favor of constructive dialogue, concluding with confidence:

“I believe this will settle down.”
