In 2024, a total of 63 children were born in Azerbaijan to girls under the age of 16.
According to Bizim.Media, the figures were published in the journal Azerbaijan Youth. The data shows that among 16-year-old girls alone, 218 births were officially recorded last year.
Experts warn that the statistics highlight the ongoing challenges of early marriage and teenage pregnancy in the country. Sociologists note that early motherhood severely limits educational opportunities and restricts young women’s future prospects. Doctors emphasize that pregnancies at such a young age pose serious health risks both to mothers and newborns.
The findings have renewed calls for stronger measures to prevent child marriage and to expand awareness programs addressing reproductive health and education among teenagers.
