The Baku Metro has launched a test phase for contactless fare payments, allowing passengers to use bank cards with NFC support, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay, for metro access.
According to Report, the new system is already active across all stations of the Purple Line – including Khojasan, Avtovaghzal, Memar Ajami, and 8 November.
Officials from Baku Metro CJSC stated that once the testing phase is complete, the contactless payment technology will be implemented across the entire network, making travel faster and more convenient for passengers.
During the testing period, riders encountering technical issues can continue to use existing payment methods, including the BakıKart transportation card.
This innovation aligns with Azerbaijan’s broader efforts to modernize urban infrastructure and expand digital payment solutions in public transport systems.
