Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR is interested in taking part in hydrocarbon field development projects in Turkmenistan, Deputy Economy Minister Sahib Alakbarov said at the Turkmen Investment Forum (TIF 2025) in Avaza, according to Report.
Alakbarov also highlighted scope for power-sector cooperation, noting that – together with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan – Baku is exploring ways to move green electricity from Central Asia to European markets via Azerbaijan. On transport, he said closer Azerbaijan – Turkmenistan ties are key to optimizing the East – West corridor and boosting the Middle Corridor.
Transit volumes between the two countries reached over 1 million tons in the first seven months of 2025, up 13% year-on-year, he added. Alakbarov also recalled an August trilateral meeting in Turkmenistan where a memorandum on developing international air services between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was signed, framing logistics links as strategic not only for the two states but for the wider Caspian and beyond.
