Slovakia has announced plans to open an honorary consulate in Azerbaijan as part of broader efforts to deepen bilateral relations and support Slovak businesses in the region.
According to a statement from Slovakia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the move reflects a strategic push to expand cooperation across political and economic sectors.
“The main priorities in strengthening ties with Azerbaijan include active support for Slovak companies, preparations to open an honorary consulate in the country, and further development of political dialogue,” the ministry said.
The announcement came following a meeting between Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár and Azerbaijan’s newly appointed ambassador to Slovakia, Elchin Gasymov.
Minister Blanár highlighted Bratislava’s commitment to building a long-term partnership with Baku. “Last year, cooperation between Azerbaijan and Slovakia gained significant momentum. During the Prime Minister’s visit to Baku, we accelerated steps toward strategic partnership,” he noted.
Ambassador Gasymov echoed the sentiment, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s growing role as a key economic partner for Slovakia. “Azerbaijan is increasingly positioning itself as a promising business ally for Slovakia—not just in energy and defense, but also in IT and transportation,” he said.
The honorary consulate is expected to boost diplomatic outreach and facilitate stronger economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
