Significant Portion of Azerbaijan’s Population Lacks Official Vocational Qualifications

According to official statistics, a significant portion of Azerbaijan’s population does not have documented professional qualifications, which poses serious challenges for the labor market.

As reported by Report, this was stated by Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev during the opening of the Center of Excellence and Workshops at the Baku State Professional Education Center for Engineering and Technologies.

The data presented by the minister shows that about 150,000 young people graduate from secondary school in Azerbaijan each year. Of the total number of school graduates, only about 60,000 enroll in higher education institutions. Currently, the number of people receiving vocational education is around 30,000.

“These are students of the current year and previous years. At the same time, more than 100,000 people with secondary education could potentially receive vocational education,” emphasized Amrullayev.

The minister also noted that many citizens acquire professional skills informally through practical work experience. This creates a situation where specialists lack formal confirmation of their qualifications.

“For this reason, it is extremely important to enhance the appeal of vocational education and adapt it to the modern demands of the labor market. Vocational education can become a real choice for both the youth and those who wish to change careers,” said Amrullayev.
