Azerbaijan will roll out its long-awaited school bus program on October 1 in a pilot phase, Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev announced.
At the initial stage, the service will cover around 1,200 students. Amrullayev said the initiative is being implemented as a public-private partnership, designed to improve both safety and convenience for schoolchildren.
“We are prioritizing schools located in the city center and those where the system will have the greatest impact,” the minister explained. “The project’s main goal is to ensure safe and comfortable transport for children.”
The government will subsidize the program in its early stages, but as participation grows, parents will gradually assume payment responsibilities.
According to Amrullayev, the scheme is also intended to help ease traffic congestion in Baku.
He added that the school bus initiative represents an innovative approach in both the education and transport sectors, with the potential for significant expansion to cover most schools nationwide in the future.
