Russian Missiles Damage Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv, Zelensky Says

Kyiv, August 28, 2025 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Kyiv was damaged during a wave of Russian attacks overnight, underscoring the growing scale of civilian and diplomatic sites hit in recent strikes.

In a post on social media, Zelensky said Russia launched “more than 30 missiles and nearly 600 drones” against Ukraine. The bombardment left 17 people dead, including four children, with dozens more in critical condition. Doctors are reportedly fighting to save lives as hospitals struggle with the influx of casualties.

Among the damaged sites were the Azerbaijani Embassy, a Turkish-owned facility, the European Union representation, and the British Council, as well as multiple residential neighborhoods.

Zelensky described the assault as “Putin’s answer” to international efforts to halt the war:

“This is Russia’s response to Ukraine, the United States, and European partners who are trying to stop the killings. That’s why pressure is needed — sanctions, tariffs, political isolation. Ukraine expects decisive steps.”

The reported strike on Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission adds a sensitive new dimension, as it affects not only Ukraine’s Western partners but also a regional power maintaining careful ties with both Moscow and Kyiv.
