Moscow, August 15 – Russia and Azerbaijan plan to hold talks next week on unblocking transport routes in the South Caucasus, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk told reporters.

“At the end of next week, I have a meeting scheduled with the Azerbaijani side. We will also be discussing the issues of unblocking transport communications in the South Caucasus. So, the process is moving forward,” Overchuk said, adding that the talks will take place in Russia.

The deputy prime minister also stated that Moscow supports Armenia’s plans to establish a transport corridor with Azerbaijan — referred to as the “Trump Route” — if Yerevan believes it is in its interests.

“Armenia is our strategic ally, and if Armenia believes something is good for them, we, of course, support Armenia in this,” Overchuk noted.

According to Armenian media, Overchuk will visit Yerevan next week, where discussions will also include the possibility of a trilateral meeting with Baku on unblocking regional communications.

“For matters such as restoring railways or improving transport connectivity in the region, it’s better to speak in a trilateral format,” he explained.
