Moscow, July 13 — Russia recorded 1,191 terrorist attacks in 2024, nearly three times more than in the previous year, according to new data from the Russian Interior Ministry cited by RBC.
The total number of terrorism-related crimes also rose sharply — from 2,382 cases in 2023 to 3,714 in 2024. By comparison, between 2019 and 2023, the number of such crimes had remained relatively stable, averaging around 2,000 annually.
The upward trend began in 2022, when attacks jumped to 127, compared to just 40–50 incidents per year during 2019–2021. The escalation continued into 2023 with 410 attacks, and spiked dramatically in 2024, surpassing 1,000 cases for the first time.
The statistics mark a troubling escalation of domestic security threats amid rising political tensions and ongoing conflicts in the region.
