Russia has agreed to Armenia’s request to prioritize the passage of grain-laden trucks through the Verkhny Lars checkpoint, facilitating urgent wheat deliveries amid reported bread shortages in Armenia.

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexey Overchuk confirmed the move today, stating that Russian authorities have been instructed to take additional measures at the Russian-Georgian border crossing.

“By Armenia’s request, competent Russian agencies have been ordered to facilitate the passage of grain trucks from Russia to the Republic of Armenia through the Verkhny Lars checkpoint,” Overchuk said, according to RIA Novosti.

The Verkhny Lars crossing in North Ossetia had recently been shut down due to severe weather and the risk of mudslides, causing significant delays. The closure of the Georgian Military Highway on July 31 stranded over 3,000 trucks in a digital queue and disrupted Armenia’s bread production, leading to growing concerns over food supply.

Russian authorities are now working to minimize shipment delays and stabilize the flow of essential goods into Armenia.
