Cases of respiratory viral infections are increasing across Azerbaijan, with medical facilities reporting a growing number of patients seeking treatment for flu-like symptoms.

Doctors say the illness is affecting people of all ages. In adults, symptoms often appear more severe, with fevers that are difficult to control and prolonged coughing. In children, high temperatures may subside more quickly, but medical supervision is still recommended.

Healthcare professionals confirm that most patients are being diagnosed with influenza, which includes several types – A, B and C. Among them, influenza A is considered the most contagious and potentially dangerous. The virus spreads primarily through airborne droplets, making transmission more likely in workplaces, schools and other crowded indoor settings.

Physicians note that infections are frequently accompanied by high fever reaching 39-41°C, headaches, dizziness and signs of general intoxication. In some cases, patients also experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

Children and the elderly remain the most vulnerable groups due to weaker immune systems and are more likely to develop severe forms of the illness. Doctors strongly advise against self-medication and warn that antibiotics and intravenous treatments should not be used without a physician’s prescription.

Health authorities state that infectious disease departments are operating as usual and that hospitals have sufficient bed capacity to handle complications. At the same time, public health officials urge citizens to follow basic preventive measures, including proper hygiene, wearing medical masks in enclosed spaces and avoiding large gatherings – especially for those in high-risk categories.

Medical experts stress that early consultation with a doctor is critical to prevent serious complications, including pneumonia, which has been increasingly associated with the current wave of infections.
