Mercedes driver George Russell crossed the line second, while Carlos Sainz, now with Williams, secured third place. Russell’s teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished just outside the podium in fourth, followed by Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson in fifth.

The 51-lap race unfolded on Baku’s demanding street circuit, a 306-kilometer track featuring 20 turns. Early drama came when McLaren’s Oscar Piastri crashed out at the start, shaking up the grid.

Verstappen’s win breaks McLaren’s recent dominance — the team entered the weekend leading the constructors’ standings with 617 points, ahead of Ferrari on 280 and Mercedes on 260. In the drivers’ championship, Piastri began the race as leader with 324 points, trailed by teammate Lando Norris on 293 and Verstappen on 230.

Since debuting as the European Grand Prix in 2016, the Baku race has produced a varied list of winners, including Nico Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo, Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Pérez, and Oscar Piastri.
