Moscow, August 25, 2025 — Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, focusing on the aftermath of the recent U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska, regional security, and nuclear cooperation.
According to the Kremlin, Putin briefed Pezeshkian on the “constructive” outcome of his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, emphasizing diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The Iranian leader expressed support for these initiatives, voicing hope for a “swift and peaceful resolution.”
The discussion also touched on the development of the Bushehr nuclear power plant and the replacement of reactor fuel supplied by Russia. Pezeshkian reassured Moscow that Tehran does not seek nuclear weapons, praising Russia’s stance on Iran’s atomic program.
Both leaders confirmed plans to meet in person during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China. The call underscored growing strategic coordination between Moscow and Tehran amid shifting dynamics in the South Caucasus and Middle East.
