The situation at Baku’s public beaches is raising serious concern among residents and visitors alike, as poor maintenance and unsanitary conditions persist during the height of the summer season.
As reported by AzTV, beaches on the Absheron Peninsula—particularly the free-access ones—are plagued by antisanitary conditions. The footage reveals widespread littering, foul odors, and slippery algae-covered paths, creating an unsafe and unpleasant environment for beachgoers.
Much of the mess, according to the report, is caused by the careless behavior of some visitors who leave behind piles of garbage—both food and non-food waste. This contributes to an increasingly “disturbing scene” along the coastline. Despite the presence of trash bins, many individuals opt not to use them, further compounding the problem.
Beach visitors interviewed in the segment condemned the behavior, calling it unacceptable and urging fellow citizens to make use of the containers provided for waste disposal.
Additional concerns raised in the video include:
Dirty restroom facilities, often unusable due to lack of maintenance;
Algae buildup on pathways, creating slipping hazards;
Overwhelming odors from stagnant pools and uncollected garbage;
No visible presence of cleaning crews or municipal oversight.
With temperatures climbing and crowds flocking to the coast, public frustration is growing. Environmentalists and city planners alike have called for immediate municipal intervention, including frequent cleaning, fines for littering, and better infrastructure planning to support the high volume of summer visitors.
Unless prompt measures are taken, Baku risks further tarnishing the reputation of its coastline as a leisure destination, with broader implications for public health and tourism.
