CHISINAU, July 19 — Moldova’s Central Election Commission has refused to register the pro-Russian “Pobeda” bloc, led by fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
According to RBC.ua, the decision was passed by a majority vote, with the commission citing numerous legal violations committed by the political alliance as the main reason for the rejection.
Moldova is set to hold parliamentary elections on September 28, 2025, with the mandate of the current legislature expiring on July 11.
The “Pobeda” bloc is headed by Ilan Shor, a controversial businessman who fled to Russia and has since obtained Russian citizenship. He faces criminal charges in Moldova for allegedly embezzling $1 billion in state funds and remains under investigation.
Shor’s previous party was declared unconstitutional in 2023, yet he has continued to exert political influence through newly formed political structures aligned with Russian interests.
