Baku, August 18, 2025 — Azerbaijani police have detained six people in the Khazar district of the capital after disrupting an unauthorized religious gathering held in a busy public area.
According to the Interior Ministry, the group attempted to stage a mass ritual in a location with heavy pedestrian and traffic flow. Those detained were identified as Nigyar Baghirova (b. 1987), Ayten Ibrahimova (b. 1984), Shahla Farajova (b. 1981), Khoshghadam Guliyeva (b. 1975), Shargiya Sadigova (b. 1994), and Arzu Guseynova (b. 1973).
A criminal case has been opened, and the suspects have been charged under relevant provisions of the Criminal Code. A court ordered all six to be held in pre-trial detention for three months.
Investigators said operational and investigative measures are ongoing.
