High transport costs from Heydar Aliyev International Airport to downtown Baku are damaging Azerbaijan’s image, a member of parliament warned during Tuesday’s plenary session.

MP Fazil Mustafa criticized the lack of affordable alternatives, noting that passengers are left with few options beyond costly taxis.

“The issue of transport from the airport to the city has still not been resolved, creating serious difficulties for citizens,” he said, adding that the Ombudsman has also raised concerns about taxi monopolies.

Mustafa pointed out that the absence of public transit links – such as buses, trains, or regulated shuttles – is the main factor burdening travelers.

“Imagine someone flying from Nakhchivan to Baku. They pay 50–60 manats for the flight, and then an additional 30–40 manats just to reach the city. The total cost reaches 100 manats. The same applies to foreign tourists. This is a critical issue for the country’s image,” the lawmaker stressed.
