“No Alternative”: Pashinyan Says Recognizing Azerbaijan Was Armenia’s Only Path

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia had no option but to recognize Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, framing the step as essential to safeguarding Armenia’s own borders.
Speaking at the international conference “Comprehensive Security and Resilience 2025,” Pashinyan recalled his October 2022 recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, saying it was done “to recognize Armenia’s territorial integrity—there was simply no other way.”

He added that Armenia’s security legitimacy has been further strengthened by the peace agreement initialed in Washington on August 8.
