Panagiotis Chronopoulos has officially stepped down as head coach of the Azerbaijan national water polo team, according to an announcement by Zaur Aliyev, President of the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation.
“Water polo is more developed in countries like Croatia, and we aim to benefit from their expertise,” Aliyev said, adding that the federation will carefully evaluate new coaching candidates in the coming weeks.
Chronopoulos took over the national team in September of last year. His departure marks the beginning of a new phase for Azerbaijan’s water polo program, which is looking to build a more competitive presence on the international stage.
The federation has not yet announced a timeline for selecting his successor.
