BAKU, August 4, 2025 — Azerbaijan is seeing a notable increase in public willingness to donate organs, with 300 individuals giving formal consent for posthumous organ donation in the first half of the year, according to the National Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation.
The boost comes amid an ongoing awareness campaign aimed at educating the public about the life-saving potential of organ donation.
“The number of registered posthumous donors has now reached 400,” the center reported.

Despite the growing donor base, demand remains high. Currently, 910 patients are on waiting lists for organ transplants across the country. These include:
298 people awaiting kidney transplants
123 in need of liver transplants
464 waiting for bone marrow transplants
25 patients in need of corneal transplants
Health officials stress the importance of sustained outreach and education to close the gap between donors and those in urgent need of transplants.
