BAKU, September 9
The opening of the Zangezur Corridor, also referred to as the “Trump Route,” will mark a major step toward reconciliation between Azerbaijan and Armenia after three decades of conflict and will have a positive impact on regional economic ties, a leading analyst said Monday.
Farid Shafiyev, chairman of the Center for Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), made the remarks at the 13th session of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Think Tank Forum in Baku.
According to him, the Zangezur Corridor will also increase the importance of other transportation routes across the South Caucasus.
“Some mistakenly believe that the Zangezur Corridor is intended as a demonstration of Azerbaijan’s superiority. In reality, it is quite the opposite: the initiative is designed to enhance the significance of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars line as well as other regional transit routes,” Shafiyev said.
