BAKU — July 27, 2025 — A recent spike in doctor visits across Azerbaijan has raised public concern as patients report flu-like symptoms, including high fever, sore throat, and gastrointestinal issues. The uptick has led to fears of a possible resurgence of COVID-19 in a new form.
Many citizens are now questioning whether they should get tested for COVID-19 when such symptoms appear. But what is actually happening, and are these concerns justified?
Infectious disease specialist Mardan Aliyev weighed in on the issue, stating that mass testing is currently unnecessary.
“We’re seeing patients with mild fever and flu-like symptoms. There’s no need to test everyone for COVID-19,” he said.
“Whether it’s COVID-19 or another respiratory virus, the treatment is the same — symptomatic care. These illnesses all belong to the upper respiratory infection group, and we apply identical protocols.”
Aliyev added that the situation is already improving, noting a decline in reported cases over the past week.
